one.

birthday morning

september 7, 2011, you turned one. it's hard to write in just one short blog how i have felt this past year with you in our family. you were an answer to prayer. a long awaited one...your grandma told me time and time again that i wouldn't understand a momma's heart until i became one myself. she's right. i can't explain it...someday i hope you'll get to experience it.

you are such a beautiful little girl. full of personality and a bit of stubbornness. very dramatic but so loving. you love your doggies and wave at everything you see. you're a bit shy with some strangers but tend to make up quickly. you laugh at yourself and find joy in the little things. you hate being left alone and make it VERY known when you're hungry or tired. you love night-night time...most days...and sleep all night (thank You, JESUS!). you love your books, green ball and giving kisses....even to the dogs. you are a precious, precious gift from God. and we don't take that lightly.

i pray the Lord will continue to give us wisdom to raise a Godly little girl, one who is kind, obedient and loving yet strong. who trusts in Jesus at a very young age and lives her life for the One who laid down His life for her. we love you, our little c. you are momma's baby girl and i will always, always love you.

laugh i guess...and then laugh some more.

i've had the most interesting day to say the least.

it all started this morning at breakfast when c spit out her milk on purpose (mommy milk mind you; the stuff is like liquid gold). i corrected her and obviously hurt her feelings. you would've thought i made her roll (since she's not crawling yet) across broken glass. it was major meltdown at 8:20 a.m. (had to be at work at 8:30). so i explained to her that mommy loves her very much but that she can't play with/spit out her milk. after getting her calmed down, she started in again! finally after 10 min or so, all was well.

she woke up early this morning so i figured her meltdown was partially due to some lack of sleep. i hoped the morning would go better for her, but she only napped 30 min. and then wouldn't eat well. then this afternoon, she still wouldn't eat well and i had a major issue happen at work.

after work, i came home and was determined to spend some quality time with c. i missed her and just wanted to be with my girl, especially after the day i just had. we stayed outside on a blanket for awhile. i tried to take her picture but each time i put her on her back, she would roll over. i would roll her back over and she would just laugh. it was priceless!

matt's bday is saturday, so after i put c to bed, i was going to go get his birthday present. honestly, after a long day, i was glad to just get out of the house. driving and shopping are my means of destressing. the plan was to stop at kroger and then go to target. on my way, i talked to God about today.

i pulled into kroger parking lot, parked the car and got out. i then remembered that i didn't have my wallet. i had left it on the entryway table. so, i got back in the car, called matt and told him i was coming home.

at this point i chose to just go with it because i probably could've cried! on my way back home, i heard a song - Zac Brown Band, Knee Deep.

Gonna put the world away for a minute
Pretend I don't live in it
Sunshine gonna wash my blues away
Had sweet love but I lost it
Got too close so I fought it
Now I'm lost in the world tryin to find me a better way

Wishin' I was
Knee deep in the water somewhere
got the blue sky, breeze and it don't seem fair
the only worry in the world
is the tide gonna reach my chair
Sunrise, there's a fire in the sky
never been so happy
never felt so high
and I think I might have found me my own kind of paradise

Wrote a note, said "Be back in a minute"
Bought a boat and I sailed off in it
Don't think anybodies gonna miss me anyway
Mind on a permanent vacation
The ocean is my only medication
Wishin' my condition aint ever gonna go away

Now I'm knee deep in the water somewhere
Got the blue sky breeze blowin' wind thru my hair
Only worry in the world
is the tide gonna reach my chair
Sunrise, there's a fire in the sky
never been so happy
never felt so high
and I think I might have found me my own kind of paradise

This champagne shore watchin' over me
It's a sweet sweet life livin' by the salty sea
One day you can be as lost as me
Change your geography and maybe you might be

Knee deep in the water somewhere
got the blue sky breeze blowin' wind thru my hair
only worry in the world
is the tide gonna reach my chair
Sunrise, there's a fire in the sky
never been so happy
never felt so high
and I think I might have found me my own kind of paradise

Come on in
the waters nice
find yourself a little slice
grab a backpack
otherwise you'll never know until you try
when you lose yourself
you find a key to paradise

i listened to the lyrics and laughed!!!  i LOVE the crystal clear blue waters of the virgin islands, as well as a few other places i've been to, but nothing compares to being at home with my husband and little girl. despite the cruddy day i had and the good laugh from the song, i didn't wish for one minute that i was somewhere else. life is harder now being a parent - more responsibility with less time to do it in it seems, but there's not one thing about it i would change.  matt and c are my paradise.

after listening to the song i was in a lighter mood and ready to go back out. matt met me in the driveway with my wallet and back to the corridor i went. this time i put the windows down, opened the sunroof and turned my radio up. again i heard "knee deep" and sang along!

i skipped kroger and went to target. i had one gift in mind for matt....and guess what...they were sold out of it. so, i picked up a few other items and off to walmart i went, thinking they would have it in stock and even price match it for me! i walked back to electronics, saw one on display and asked if there were any in stock. "no, i'm sorry," was the response i got. i kindly thanked her, asked when she might get some more in and went to check out.

one thing i don't understand is why walmart, a company that takes in bazillions of dollars, has less than 5 checkouts open at 10 p.m.! craziness! after finally getting checked out, i get back in my car and head for home. on my way, i was listening to the radio and heard of a parent that had lost their child. my heart ached for them. at that moment, i wanted to hold my little girl so bad. i humbly thanked the Lord for a healthy baby and asked that He always spare her life. after getting home, i went in to peak at c, where she was sleeping soundly. i love that little girl so much.

since i hadn't eaten dinner, i made a few hot dogs (nitrate free ones; they are SO good). as i was walking out of the kitchen, i dropped one on the floor. seriously, it just got comical. it's been one thing after another all day long.

i'm glad it's 11 p.m. hopefully between now and when i go to bed, nothing else will happen...although now i wish i wouldn't have eaten the 2 hot dogs so late. ugh.

tired but had fun!

i promise you she really did love her pool!

i'm tired tonight. although i've had 5 days off, they have been busy...i have rediscovered/been reminded/learned for the first time a few things...

(1) my husband has just as anal tendencies about dinner preparing as i do!

(2) time playing with my child is far more important than cleaning a cluttered house.

(3) God really blessed me when i visited a yard sale last week and then revisited the lady again this past weekend and purchased a garbage bag full of clothes for c (up to 3t!) for what she or her friend had paid for 1 outfit (it was juicy couture!)!

(4) my daughter LOVES splashing in her pool!

(5) 2.5 hr. naps are awesome (i got a lot done!), however, she got all of her sleep in one nap instead of 2 (although she was somewhat a bear, getting her outside did help!).

(6) my husband and his brothers are all ocd.

(7) i'm really thankful for my parents.

(8) there's nothing more precious than c being soooo tired, falling asleep in my arms, and then after placing her in bed, she wakes up enough to give me a big smile and then goes back to sleep.

(9) c waking up screaming at 10:23 p.m. scares the bajeebies out of me!

(10) i'm thankful to God for allowing me to start and end the day with my husband, our daughter and 2 dogs.

c's new face. she made it this day every time she ate a bite of peach.
her hair is out of control!
behind c's bed. THIS is why i buy multiple packs of pacis.
matt getting the yard set up for our memorial day cook-out.
gluten-free chocolate cake w/ betty crocker hershey icing. so YUM!

lemon very berry cake w/ blueberry sauce. so YUM too!

one of matt's throws on boccee ball. so close...but i still won!

cousins.

c went to grandma and grandpa's today to visit her cousins. they're such awesome kids. i watched c and caleb sit in the floor together. it was so sweet and quite comical. his face was within probably a foot or so of hers and he kept pulling out her paci, she would open her mouth up, and he would put it back in. this continued for minutes. i wanted to get a video of it, but for some reason the video on my phone isn't working. i sat back and just cracked up! it was good bonding time for the two! oh, and he finally said my name! after he said it, he held up his hand for a high-five! you go, buddy! your auntie jen loves you!

mommy thighs.

i lovingly refer to c as having "mommy thighs." the girl has a little chub on her. if she's made like me (and i'm made like my mom), then her thighs might be a problem area one day! oh, the things we deal with.

we ate lunch outside today since it was SO nice - thank you, Jesus! c does great sitting up now, but i thought i'd put her in her bumbo just to keep her in one place while she ate. i grabbed a blanket, the bumbo and her and headed outside while matt took care of the food. i went to put her in the bumbo and guess what...her chubbo legs wouldn't fit!

i cracked up, but left her in it since she didn't seem to mind.

love the drool.
 ah. we just love her.

she finally made up (i think) with her uncle bobby and uncle artie today. it's been a rough road with lots of tears. i left her with matt this evening and the boys while i went to the store and to vote. matt said she did great. of course though, when i walked through the door she wanted her momma - the bottom lip pushed out and the tears started flowing.

i sometimes struggle with how to respond when that happens. one part of me wants to rush to her, hold her close and tell her "mommy's here, everything is ok," but the other part of me knows she's just being a little clingy/dramatic and needs to know that people other than mommy and daddy are ok (that is as long as we say they are!).

uncle rob, we need to work with you next. want me to bring her on over? ah, what's 1 more? :o) g, you may need to help since you were the same way with your uncle matt! i love you all!

1 happy girl.

with a little help from mom.
