tears...and lots of them.

remember i posted a blog awhile back about stressing over everything? well, it happened again...i think it was justified this time. about a month ago i noticed some red spots on c's legs and feet. not many, maybe 10. well i had forgotten to ask her dr about them at her appt in march, so i asked him about them recently. his response, "if it were my kid, i'd think oh that's weird and watch her and if they're not gone in a week or so then we'll do some bloodwork."

i went home after her appointment and looked up petechiae on the web. wrong move. i was freaked out, plus she had a low-grade fever (99 something) over the weekend which added to my stress. you know, some doctors don't even consider a "low-grade fever" as anything...not until it reaches 100.4. c's dr is one of them. he's my favorite pediatrician ever though!

well, rather than waiting the one week she was supposed to have waited if they were still there, we went on monday. i told him i looked up petechiae on the web and he asked what i found...i told him the worst thing i read down to something pretty common. he commented, "you're not going to be happy until i do a full cbc on her, are you?" "nope," i responded, so off c and i went to get it done.

the nurse checked her right arm, then her left. the poor girl has pathetic veins (she IS 7 mo. old though...) in her chubby little arms. she finally found a tiny vein in her left arm, so with c up against my chest and me holding her in a bear hug, the nurse poked my baby's arm. and the tears started...

the nurse tried to get blood from this tiny vein, but to no avail. backup plan was her finger. only problem with the finger is the blood can clot more quickly, which is NOT what we wanted to happen. i had already decided if that were to happen, we were going home and taking blood another day.

after consoling her for a few minutes, i turned her back around, leaned her up against my chest and held on tight...the nurse counted 1, 2, 3 and the tears, along with some screaming, continued. i prayed in her ear the whole time that her blood wouldn't clot, while singing one of her favorite songs, "snuggle puppy." the song didn't work, but fortunately for little c, the blood didn't clot (thank you, Jesus!) and after a few minutes the nurse finished. she commented about getting the blood to the lab before it clotted, so i told her i would clean c up and to please get that tube to the lab! thankfully, after about a 10 minute wait, we got the thumbs up that the sample was ok and we were released to go home.

so off i went to find her grandma with my beautiful yet exhausted, red-eyed child, who served as a human pin cushion (ok, she only got poked twice. that's alot for a little girl). her wounds showed -  a taped up left arm and a bandaged finger on her right hand.

finally after several l-o-n-g hours, i got a call from c's dr who said her results came back normal. i am so thankful to Jesus for that. he told me what it could be and that it's nothing to worry about but to keep watching it, should it come and go. so, that's what we're doing....if you're reading this though and will, please say a prayer for her. that whatever is causing it will just go away!

even though i'm not a fantastic singer at all, my little girl seems to enjoy music so i sing to her quite often. tonight i sang, "He's got the whole world in His hands" to her. i always like to add my own little rendition, "He's got my itty, bitty baby in His hands, He's got my itty, bitty baby in His hands, He's got my itty, bitty baby in His hands, He's got the whole world in His hands." i sing it not only for c, but as a reminder to myself too. it brings me peace knowing that the very One who created my daughter in my womb also holds her in the palm of His hand.
